WordPress Mobile Pack – Easy Going Theme
So many people are on the go, reading the web from their phones, that a web designer needs to think about how a site will look on a tiny screen. Fortunately, if one does a site in WordPress, there is an easy solution.
This morning I added a Mobile Switcher via WordPress Mobile Pack to this blog. One can now easily read the posts on a mobile phone in a simple theme. If you are reading the blog from a desktop, it has the Panorama theme (or my version of it). Here’s how it looks with a mobile theme:
The directions to install are simple, too:
On WordPress v2.7 and later, the installation is as follows:
- Go to the ‘Plugins’ / ‘Add new’ menu
- Upload wordpress-mobile-pack.zip then press ‘Install now’.
- Activate the switcher plugin. Change its settings as required.
- Select which desktop widgets are to appear on the mobile theme.
- Enjoy.
When I was about to install this on a client’s site a few months ago, I was pleased to get a response via Twitter from the developer, James Pearce, about the mobile pack. That’s what I call good customer service.

This is great! I have installed a mobi switcher on my static sites and had been searching for one for my blog. I have to admit I haven’t researched it diligently, though. Your post on this made my searching task much quicker. I’ve downloaded the plugin and will install and configure today. Thank you.

This is a very useful tip. Most complicated themes take ages to load on mobiles and people just give up trying to access them. Im hoping to add this to my blog as well. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you find it useful. It is a very simple theme – one issue I do find is every time there is an upgrade, if you have ever made any edits to the theme, you have to re-add them manually each time. So it’s fastest to leave this mobile theme as it comes.
Love wordpress :) Every site today should take a look at how their website behaves on ex. Iphone. If not you probably loose out on a huge market – just not now – but in the future!
